“No fee” policy continues for Dana InterLibrary Loan

Dana Library will continue indefinitely the “no fee” policy for UVM faculty, staff and students, and Fletcher Allen employees needing to borrow journal articles and books from other libraries (Interlibrary Loan). Since the elimination of fees last September, health science students, faculty researchers and clinicians have taken advantage of their ability to obtain information resources that the Library does not own or subscribe to via ILL and have requested over 1400 journal articles.

It’s easy to request an article or other publication. First, determine that the Libraries’ do not have the book or journal you need. Look in the Title List of all UVM Electronic Journals (A-Z) on the Dana/UVM Libraries Website. Search for the title in the Libraries online catalog (Voyager) too. If you can’t find it either place, fill out the ILL request form at http://library.uvm.edu/services/ill/index.html as fully as you can and submit it. Usually the request can be filled in less than two days. Inter-Library Borrowing Professional Marie McGarry said, “There is a lot of satisfaction to providing information needed for clinical research and education. I am happy to respond to requests from all our patrons.”

Dana Medical Library hours will be reduced between Friday December 19, 2008 and Sunday January 4, 2009:

Saturday December 20 9am-7pm

Sunday December 21 9am-10pm
Monday-Tuesday, December 22 and 23 8am-10pm
Wednesday December 24 8am-3pm
Thursday December 25 through Sunday December 28 – CLOSED

Monday – Wednesday December 29-31 noon-5pm
Thursday January 1 through Saturday January 3, 2009 – CLOSED

Sunday January 4, 2009 9am-5pm

Regular hours will resume Monday January 5, 2009

HOLIDAY REFERENCE DESK HOURS

The reference desk will be open regular hours, Monday-Friday, 10am to 4pm through Tuesday, December 23rd. The reference desk will be CLOSED Wednesday, December 24th-Sunday, January 4th, reopening at 10 am on Monday, January 5th.

HOLIDAY DOCUMENT DELIVERY & INTERLIBRARY LOAN HOURS

Document Delivery and Interlibrary Loan requests will not be filled from Wednesday, December 24th, through Sunday, January 4th.  Service will resume on Monday, January 5th.

Library Pilots Interlibrary Loan Fee Waiver

The Dana Medical Library is pleased to announce a pilot project in Interlibrary Loan waiving the ILL fee on the first 25 requests for all UVM current faculty, staff and students, and Fletcher Allen Health Care employees, in the fall 2008 semester, starting immediately. The regular $5 fee will be waived for all routine interlibrary loan requests, including journal articles, books and audiovisual materials. Copyright fees may still apply and will not be waived. The impact of the fee waiver plan on patron service and library costs will be evaluated in January.
