New Content Development Librarian Joins Dana

Content Development Librarian, Assistant Professor Thomas Schmiedel

Tom Schmiedel joins the Dana Medical Library this month as the new temporary Content Development Librarian. Tom holds a BA in Chemistry from the University of Colorado at Boulder, an MS in Education from Western Connecticut State University and an MLS from Southern Connecticut State University. He comes to Dana from Colorado, where he served as Visiting Electronic Resources Librarian at Fort Lewis College in Durango for the past year.

In his position at Dana Professor Schmiedel will be selecting health sciences resources, identifying open-access content and data for inclusion in the current organized collections, and analyzing collection usage and research collection alternatives. He hopes to “gain a better understanding of how Dana’s community of users views the library’s resources.” He is especially excited to improve the current collection by acquiring resources that Library patrons truly wish to use in their studies and research.

In his free time, Tom enjoys running, cycling, hiking, photography and writing. He is excited to be exploring new territories in Vermont this summer.
