Dana Medical Library: Your Medical and Health Science Information Home

This issue of the Dana Newsletter is coming just in time for the Holidays. Though our hours will be reduced over the extended break period, we will be open several hours most days and on the weekends. If you are like me and want to get some writing or research done over the holidays, the Dana Library will be open for you. Check for specific hours in the article below.

I recently attended the Practice Improvement Conference of the Society of  Teachers of Family Medicine. It focused on the theme of the Medical Home. The Medical Home is a framework of practices which promote teamwork and patient relationship-centered care.  The idea is that everyone who is in touch with the patient is part of the care team: the doctor, the nurse, medical office staff, and the patient herself. What does this have to do with the Library? We at Dana would like to be on your Health Science Information “Care Team.” As library users and information seekers, you approach library-services through so many avenues: in person through study at a library carrel, finding electronic journal articles through the website, requesting a literature search or inter-library loan to name just a few. We hope to make it as seamless and easy to do as possible. Need help? Click on the E-resource Problem button described in the article below or Ask a Librarian.

Best wishes for the holidays and the New Year from the Staff and Faculty at the Dana Medical Library.

Fall Semester Pilot: New Reference Hours

Due to increased activity as Liaisons to individual departments, Dana Library is issuing a pilot project this fall reducing the hours that the reference desk is open. The reference desk will be open from 10 am to 4 pm M-F this semester.

However, just because a reference librarian isn’t sitting at the reference desk, doesn’t mean you can’t ask a question and get the research assistance you need!

  • If you don’t see a librarian sitting at the Reference desk, do not hesitate to proceed to the Circulation desk with your question.
  • You can also contact librarians by calling the desk at 656-2201 and leaving a voice message.
  • Or, email the reference desk at
  • If you need to find the librarian who is assigned to your department, go to the liaison directory for contact information.

The Dana Medical Library is committed to serving the needs of all of its patrons, and we look forward to any feedback you may have about the new reference desk hours. Please feel free to email us or leave a comment in the comment book at the front of the Library.
